IMBRA Disclosure Statement
International Marriage Broker Regulation Act Compliance Information
Important Legal Notice
This disclosure is provided in accordance with U.S. federal law requirements. Please read this information carefully to understand your rights and our role as an informational website.
What is IMBRA?
The International Marriage Broker Regulation Act (IMBRA) is a U.S. federal law enacted in 2005 as Title D of Public Law 109-162. This legislation regulates marriage-based immigration visas and was designed to protect foreign nationals entering relationships with U.S. citizens.
IMBRA reaffirms and strengthens the U.S. Government's commitment to fight domestic violence and abuse in all forms. The law requires that informational pamphlets be provided to K-1 (fiancé), K-3 (spouse), IR-1/CR-1 (immediate relative spouse), and F2A (spouse) visa applicants about their legal rights relating to:
- Domestic violence protections
- Sexual assault resources
- Child abuse prevention
- Immigration rights for victims
Under IMBRA, K-1 and K-3 visa applicants are provided with any existing criminal background information on their U.S. citizen fiancé(e)s or spouses that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) received during processing of I-129F petitions.

Your Responsibilities
If you pursue an international relationship that may lead to marriage, you have important responsibilities under U.S. law:
Understand IMBRA Requirements
If you are a U.S. citizen petitioning for a K-1 or K-3 visa, you must provide certain criminal background information to USCIS. This information will be shared with your foreign fiancé(e) or spouse.
Review Official Pamphlets
Foreign nationals should carefully read the U.S. Government pamphlet titled "Information on the Legal Rights Available to Immigrant Victims of Domestic Violence in the United States." Available in 34 languages including English, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Tagalog, and Hindi.
Verify Platform Compliance
When using any international dating platform, verify that the service complies with applicable laws including IMBRA. Legitimate platforms will have their own disclosure statements and compliance measures.
Consult Legal Professionals
For specific legal questions about immigration, visas, or IMBRA compliance, consult with a qualified immigration attorney. We cannot provide legal advice.
Understanding the Visa Process
If your international relationship progresses toward marriage and you wish to bring your spouse or fiancé(e) to the United States, you should understand the basic visa categories:
K-1 Fiancé Visa
For foreign-citizen fiancé(e)s of U.S. citizens who plan to marry within 90 days of entry and live permanently in the United States.
K-3 Spouse Visa
For spouses of U.S. citizens waiting for immigrant visa availability, allowing entry while the immigrant visa petition is processed.
IR-1/CR-1 Spouse Visa
Immigrant visas for spouses of U.S. citizens that allow direct permanent resident status upon entry to the United States.
Important Reminder
All marriage-based visa applicants will receive the IMBRA informational pamphlet before their visa interview at a U.S. embassy or consulate. The consular officer will summarize this information during the interview.
